Huntington Sunken Garden

Huntington Sunken Garden
Abandoned Quarry

Huntington County was the site of many limestone quarries, one of which has now been converted into the Sunken Garden in central Huntington. The quarry had been abandoned and became an eyesore until the City of Huntington purchased it in 1924. The Sunken Garden is on the south end of the 48-acre Veteran’s Memorial Park. The Sunken Garden features a concrete walking path that meanders along a pool that has several fountains. A set of stone steps leads up to the adjacent Memorial Park, which affords a majestic vista of the Sunken Garden. The best way to access the Sunken Garden is to park in the parking lot on the south side of Park Drive and walk through the stone tunnel that goes under the street and into the garden.
