At 165 acres, Falls of the Ohio State Park is the smallest of Indiana’s state parks. The park resides in the town of Clarksville, Indiana just across the river from Louisville, Kentucky. The Falls of the Ohio were a series of rapids that allowed the river to fall twenty-six feet in a little over two and a half miles. Jackson is a multi-use property. Hunting, fishing and trapping is permitted. The State of Indiana conducts periodic timber sales in the State Forests. The monies obtained by the sale of licenses, fees and timber go into the Heritage Trust fund that the State uses to procure more property. The State began acquiring the land that now encompasses Jackson-Washington in the 1930’s. The other activities offered at Jackson-Washington are camping, hiking, boating, fishing and horse trails. McCormick’s Creek Falls drops ten feet, climaxing the 150 foot total drop of McCormick’s Creek during its passage through the mile long canyon. The falls is just a short distance from the main park road and is also accessible from Trail 3. An easy to get to overlook allows visitors a good look at this pretty waterfall. Hikers traveling along Trail 3, which follows the McCormick’s Creek rocky stream bed, also have grand views of the falls and the canyon. Continue reading McCormick’s Creek Falls
