Greetings, in this episode I announce the publication of my newest book, Democracy in America – The Early Documents
My newest book release is a book titled Democracy in America – The Early Documents
By the time the American Revolution began Americans already had great experience in self-governing. The vast distance and time required to travel made this necessary. From the beginning of settlement by the English the first order of business was to set up a system of self-governance. Most colonial charters bestowed by the king authorized the colonists to set up governing boards and make laws, if these laws did not conflict with English law. Documents like the Body of Liberties, the Dorchester Agreement and the General Fundamentals established local authority and granted rights.
Early Documents
This book will include the text of many of the important early documents the colonists used to govern themselves, as well as some of the historical background. The author has not corrected grammar or spelling in the original text. Some of these worked, others did not. But through the drafting and implementation of the various systems of government, by the time the historical events of 1774 at Lexington and Concord, the colonists were ready to walk on their own.
