Greetings, this episode relates a bit of information about the four ships that bore the name USS Vincennes, honored by a monument in Vincennes, Indiana.

Located in Vincennes, Indiana, the USS Vincennes Monument is a granite monument located near the Old Cathedral near the intersection of Main and First Streets. The memorial commemorates the four US Navy ships that have borne the name, USS Vincennes.
First USS Vincennes was a 24 Gun Sloop. Launched on 27 April 1826, and commissioned on 27 August 1826. The ship set sail on September 3, 1826 and sailed for the Pacific Ocean. It served in that ocean for four years, arriving back in port on June 8, 1830. This USS Vincennes was the first US Navy ship to circumnavigate the earth. After several decades of service that included duty during the American Civil War, this USS Vincennes was decommissioned in August 1865.

The second USS Vincennes was a United States Navy New Orleans-class cruiser
Launched on 21 May 1936, ut earned 2 battle stars. It had a complement of 103 officers and 763 enlisted.
Its armament consisted of:
9 × 8 ininch 55 caliber guns
8 × 5 inch 25 caliber anti-aircraft guns
2 × 3-pound 1.9 in saluting guns
12 × single 20 mm Oerlikon cannons that were added 1942
4 quad 28 mm/75 caliber anti-aircraft gunsthat were added 1942
The Vincennes provided escort service during World War II, supported the carrier USS Enterprises during the Doolittle Raid and participated in the Battle of Midway. She sank at the Battle of Savo Island during the Guadalcanal Campaign on August 9, 1942. 322 crewmen went down with her.

The third USS Vincennes was a Cleveland-class light cruiser of the United States Navy
It was commissioned on January 21, 1944 and earned 6 battle stars
Armament:
12 × 6 in (150 mm) guns (4×3)
12 × 5 in (130 mm) guns
24 × 40 mm guns
22 × 20 mm guns
This version of the USS Vincennes saw extensive action during the latter stages of the war at the Marianna Islands, Philippines, and Formosa and off the coast of Japan. She was decommissioned on September 10, 1946. She sank on April 1, 1966, as part of a missile-firing test at San Francisco.

The 4th USS Vincennes was an Aegis Cruiser that was commissioned on Commissioned: July 6, 1985.

68 × RIM-66 SM-2, and 20 × RUR-5 ASROC
8 × RGM-84 Harpoon missiles
2 × Mark 45 5 in / 54 cal lightweight gun
2–4 × .50 cal (12.7 mm) gun
2 × Phalanx CIWS
2 × Mk 32 12.75 in (324 mm) triple torpedo tubes
After extensive duty in the Pacific, this version was decommissioned in June 29, 2005 and sold for scrap.
