October 12, 1492 – Columbus Arrives In the Bahamas
Description:
After their departure from the Canary Islands Columbus and his crew sailed west for five long weeks. An anxious crew, fearing running out of food and water, came close to mutiny. In the early hours of October 12, 1492 the welcome cry of “land,” echoed across the ocean, ending their fears.
In this podcast you will hear how Columbus established a tradition for later Spanish galleons en route to the Spanish empire in the New World on his first voyage in 1492.
