The Greenhouse in Early January

The Greenhouse in Early January
1/11/2024

It is early January, and the greenhouse is full of lettuce, cabbage, Chinese Cabbage, some carrots, beets and an assortment of other odds and ends. The greenhouse is unheated; however, I have covered the plants with an additional layer of garden cover. So far, the coldest temperatures we have had is 16°. Next week, mid-January, the temperatures will drop to close to 0°. I have added one additional layer of row cover, so I will see how well these plants survive the extreme cold.

Harvesting
I have been harvesting fresh lettuce from the greenhouse since November and, if it survives this cold snap, I expect to harvest until March or even April. By that time, I will have planted more vegetables in there for harvest in early to late spring.
I constructed this greenhouse last spring and planted the first vegetables in it on March 29. I have been harvesting continuously since about mid-April 2023.

Stay tuned, I will update periodically as the garden season progression. Right now, I am expanding the grow light array I installed last year and have been busy cleaning up and reorganizing the potting area.
